Why Wait Until January 1st?

Many people make New Year’s resolutions – things they’ll start, or stop, doing on January 1st. They’ll diet, exercise more, stop smoking, cut down on their drinking or take charge of their finances.

Those are all great goals, so why wait? Why not start right now?

You’ll get a running head start and a few days from now, eating better, walking on the treadmill, and saving a few dollars will be more of a habit rather than a shock to your system. You’ll also avoid the spending, eating and drinking that often accompanies the week after Christmas and into New Year’s Eve that makes change even more difficult.

If you absolutely need the January 1st fresh start, you can at the very least, begin to prepare for change. Write down your New Year’s resolutions and make sure you have clear, measurable goals. Assemble some tools that will support your efforts – download a food tracking app, buy some running clothes, sketch out a monthly budget – and tell friends and family about your big plans.

As we wrap up 2023, wouldn’t it be great to have an extra two or three weeks to meet your goals? You’ll get that extra time for 2024 if you start right now.
