I had an amazing time at the Tobay Triathlon produced by Event Power LI last weekend, and while it wasn't my fastest tri, I was happy with my swim, bike and run times.
The swim was a 800 meter swim, but with a stiff wind from the north, most athletes, including myself, struggled to stay on course and logged some extra yards. My swim gear isn't fancy and some reasonably priced Aegend swim goggles are my go-to.
The bike is a whole different ball game - the place where we all probably spend more than we should and this 7.6 mile Oyster Bay ride had a long slogging uphill climb and sweet downhill descent into the finish.
I did the 5K run at an easy pace and like the cycling portion, the course included a long uphill climb to Planting Fields Arboretum, a quick turnaround and then a quick downhill into the finish line. My preferred running shoes? ASICS Unisex METASPEED Sky 2 Running Shoes. They cost a little more money, but are super light and designed to make running off the bike a little easier.
I missed the Voice of Long Island Racing, Terry Bisogno, this year but his kind words on encouragement remained with me as I cruised through the finish line.
